"Your skin is vulnerable during shaving. You apply warm water to soften the hairs, which opens your pores, allowing more of whatever is resting on the surface of your skin to sink in. While shaving, you exfoliate the outer layer and revealing new, fresh skin underneath that is more tender and vulnerable to the elements outside—including your shave cream. Unfortunately, many over-the-counter products contain potentially harmful chemicals that may not be good for your health. If your shave cream contains any of these chemical ingredients, you should avoid them, and switch to a safer product like this one! Triethanolamine (TEA) along with 'cousins' DEA (diethanolamine) and MEA (monoethanolamine), are often found in products that foam, including shave creams and gels. They have been linked to hormone disruption and can form cancer-causing nitrates and nitrosamines. Surfactants as such as sodium lauryl or laureth sulphate, ammonium laureth sulphate, cocamide DEA, and ammonium xylene sulfonate have been included for the product to lather. During the manufacturing process, SLES/SLS becomes contaminated with 1,4 dioxane, a carcinogenic byproduct. SLS breaks down the skin's moisture barrier, easily penetrates the skin and allows other chemicals to penetrate by increasing skin permeability by approximately 100-fold. BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene is a toluene-based ingredient used as a preservative in personal care products like shaving gels. It’s been linked with skin, eye, and lung irritation, hormone disruption, and has been shown to be potentially carcinogenic in animal studies".
