Omega-3 fatty acids are "good" fat. They can improve your heart, brain, joints, mood, and immune system They can lower your risk of heart disease, depression, dementia, arthritis, and inflammation. Inflammation, along with oxidative stress, is one of the strongest predictor for a variety of lifestyle-related chronic illnesses.
The different types of omega-3 fatty acids can be confusing. There are the fish oils, which contain docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and there are the plant sources with alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) which needs to be converted into DHA and EPA omega-3 fatty acids in the body.
