The ACTN3 gene affects muscle fiber composition and is sometimes referred to as the 'sprint gene'.

The ACTN3 gene is responsible for the production of alpha-actinin-3 -a molecular protein that is only found in fast twitch muscle fibers (type II).

Scientific research has found that if you have the XX group, you will have a deficiency in the alpha-actinin-3 protein resulting in decrease power.

The R - allele is an indicator that you would benefit from sprint-type exercises.
